I am a mom myself. I say that because I want you to know that I am aware of how special those first few days and weeks with your baby are. Sometimes, handing your baby to me could be the first time someone other than family has held your baby and that can be nerve racking. I want to do everything in my power to make it a pleasant experience and ease your worries. Let's be honest, new parent or parent of five, there is enough to worry about.
Session includes candid moments with family. I will guide family in natural poses in home or in my lifestyle room. Baby will be photographed alone in 2-3 set ups as well, usually wrapped. All of babies outfits, wraps, headbands, hats and props provided by me although special outfits and momentos are welcome.

FAQ
When should I book my Newborn Session?
I recommend booking your Newborn Session for the week following your due date. I am very flexible when it comes to accommodating new parents so if the session needs to be adjusted once baby arrives, no worries. I would get your newborn session on the books as soon as possible, I do take a limited amount of newborns per month.
Who supplies all of the wraps, headbands and props for the baby?
I do! In my studio you will find a supply of hats, headbands, and wraps that we can use. What should we wear for the family pictures? I want you to feel comfortable so I suggest wearing clothes that you can move freely in. I also recommend soft toned, solid colors, avoiding loud prints and patterns so that we can keep the focus on the baby. If you would like a more traditional look, a black or white t-shirt is a nice choice but I have found that many of my clients like a more modern, light and airy look with soft and muted colors.
Do you take any precautions regarding COVID-19 or other illnesses?
I sure do! I will be masked the entire length of your session. Before you arrive, I thouroughly wash my hands as well as apply hand sanitizer right before handling baby. Any props or wraps that will be used will be washed before each use. I will be handling baby closely so I will always make sure I am tidy with no strong perfumes or lotions.
Where do the studio sessions take place?
Your session will take place in my private photography studio in Oshkosh, WI. Just bring yourself and your little bundle of joy and rest assured that the studio is fully stocked with all the necessary props, toiletries, and snacks to keep you comfortable throughout your session.
Can I bring a specific prop or pet to the session?
Absolutely! Furry friends and special items are welcome. Let me know during our pre-session planning so I can prepare ahead of time.
Can I incorporate sibling and family photos with my baby?
Absolutely! Photographing your little one surrounded by family is an incredible experience for everyone involved. You will want to book the Family + Newborn session.
How do you make sure my baby is safe during the session?
Safety is number one. No cute pose or prop will ever come above the safety of a baby. Throughout your session, I will be monitoring baby for any signs of discomfort. I am educated on different posing and the requirements for each pose to be safe. Your Newborn Session should feel like a long nap for baby. Relaxed, warm and content throughout.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
All I need is your baby, a pacifier if used and a way for you to feed your baby. Right when you get to the studio, I will have you strip baby down to a diaper and offer milk/formula. After that, you are free to relax.
How soon should I have my newborn session after giving birth?
The sooner the better! Newborns tend to stay sound asleep a few days after birth and because of this we are able to gently move your little one into sweet poses. After a couple of weeks, this is not as easy to do. After the 14 day mark babies begin to stretch and the poses won’t be as easy to accomplish.
How long will my newborn photography session take?
Your session will take between 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the type of session you book. Pausing to allow times for feeding and changing. The atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable and the pace of our session will be determined by the baby.
What happens after my session?
A sneak peek is typically posted to the Rust + Roots Photography page within a few days of the session.
After your session we’ll discuss when you when you can expect your photographs to be available for viewing in your online gallery.
